Our ESC Volunteer Batool in Arad, Romania

During my volunteering experience in Arad, Romania, with YNDI as part of the ESC project, I discovered that kindness and collaboration are stronger than any language barrier.

Many people in the city didn’t speak English, yet that never stopped them from offering help with sincerity and warmth—using gestures, smiles, and even funny attempts to form simple words. It felt as if they were saying, “Communication isn’t about words, it’s about an open heart.”

Working with children was another valuable lesson in patience and creativity. Teaching them a new skill or guiding them through an activity wasn’t just a learning experience for them—it was for me too. I had to find ways to connect beyond words, whether through play, movement, or even facial expressions and tone of voice. And every time I saw their eyes light up with excitement, I knew I had reached them—without saying a single word.

This experience made me realize that real communication isn’t measured by how many languages we speak, but by our ability to listen, understand, and engage with passion!

خلال تجربتي التطوعية في أراد، رومانيا ضمن مشروع ESC مع YNDI، اكتشفت أن اللطف والتعاون أقوى من أي حاجز لغوي. رغم أن الكثير من سكان المدينة لا يتحدثون الإنجليزية، إلا أن ذلك لم يمنعهم من المساعدة بصدق وعفوية، مستخدمين الإشارات، الابتسامات، وحتى المحاولات الطريفة لتكوين كلمات بسيطة—وكأنهم يخبرونني أن الرغبة في التواصل لا تحتاج إلى لغة مشتركة، بل إلى قلب منفتح.

أما العمل مع الأطفال، فقد كان درسًا حقيقيًا في الصبر والإبداع. تعليمهم مهارة جديدة أو تنفيذ نشاط معهم لم يكن مجرد تدريب لهم، بل تدريب لي أيضًا على إيجاد طرق تواصل تتجاوز الكلمات. كنت أبحث عن أساليب ممتعة لجذب انتباههم—من خلال اللعب، التفاعل الحركي، وحتى استخدام تعابير الوجه والصوت—وكل مرة كنت أرى عيونهم تلمع بالحماس، كنت أدرك أنني وصلت إليهم، حتى دون كلمات.

هذه التجربة جعلتني أؤمن أن التواصل الحقيقي لا يُقاس بعدد اللغات التي نتحدثها، بل بمدى قدرتنا على الإنصات، الفهم، والمشاركة بروح مليئة بالشغف!
