Our ESC Volunteer Sarah Asad in Croatia

Written by our ESC volunteer Sarah Asad in Croatia:
Marhaba (hello in Arabic), this is Sarah Asad from Jordan. I studied civil engineering and had worked in the construction fields for five years. My interests in sustainable development and the environment motivate me to be part of Argonauta association which is a non-profit organization for nature, environment, and sustainable development, based in Murter, Croatia.

I am taking a gap year and choose to do volunteering, because I thought it would be a great opportunity to use my work experience in making the world a better place and give back to the community.
This week is my first week in Murter and luckily, I got the chance to meet a lot of people in Murter island from all over the world even though the summer season is about to end. Also, I made a lot of Croatian friends. People here are so kind and peaceful, and what amazes me is Pomalo, which is a culture shock for someone coming from a city! For those who don’t know what I am talking about, Pomalo is the mentality and lifestyle on Dalmatian coast which is the easy, relaxed, no problem, there is always tomorrow, have another coffee – attitude of Dalmatians summed up with just one word!

I fell in love with the nature and landscape here, my best is the combination of green and red trees with gray rocks. Above, the big blue sky, sometimes veiled in gray or dotted with doodle-shaped clouds. I live five minutes from the beach, connecting to the sea and being able to see the sunset everyday is such a healing power.
