Our ESC Volunteer Rami in Târgu Frumos, Romania
I am Rami Mahmoud Abu Al-Ghanem from Jordan, from the governorate of Madaba. I am 28 years old and hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Jordan, specializing in repeat juvenile offenders.
I have volunteered in many fields within the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and today I have the opportunity to represent my country abroad in the ESC UNITY project in Romania.
I am sharing my experience from the summit of Ceahlău Massif in Ceahlău National Park. The adventure was exciting from the first moments when we arrived at Bucharest Airport, the capital, and then moved to the city of Craiova for a 7-day training. During this training, we got to know 60 volunteers from five countries: Jordan, Romania, Turkey, Italy, and Spain. After the training and the division of volunteers into five teams, the farewell moments with the other teams were very emotional.
After the training, we moved to Târgu Frumos, which enchanted me with its beautiful nature. We spent 30 volunteer days full of preparations for various activities, and we traveled in the Iași region, exploring museums, universities, gardens, and the history related to the area. I am very grateful for this experience in all its details, as it allowed me to gain more knowledge and develop my skills in many personal, scientific, and practical fields. This opportunity also allowed us to share our Jordanian culture with others and to learn about their cultures as well.
Words cannot describe the feeling that touches our hearts after each activity with the children when we see their smiles… and their eagerness to take group photos… These moments confirm to me that while the volunteer puts in effort, they gain new experiences that enable them to give their best each time, receiving manifold in return for their effort and love during their volunteer work.
Thank you YNDI for giving us the opportunity to participate in the UNITY project supported by the European Solidarity Corps ESC.
