About the project:
The Initiative Christen für Europa e.V ./ ICE conducts for nearly 30 years civic and social youth education, international youth exchanges and voluntary services in Germany, and thus combines civil engagement and intercultural learning.

The project “Bridges of Humanity” (“Brücken der Menschlichkeit”) offers to young people to carry out a service in social and youth centers. This service supports the development of human rights and and international bonding, the principle of voluntariness, service, learning and taking over responsibility.

During your stay cultural exchange, the acquisition of linguistic and thematic competence and mutual learning from each other is the main focus. Another concern is the promotion of tolerance and respect for “others”. Topics such as intercultural communication, human dignity and rights, inclusion, European Welfare and historical backgrounds for a common understanding of Europe are covered in seminars and theme evenings of both educational institutions. Through these encounters international understanding, intercultural learning and the development European consciousness are promoted.

The volunteers´ activity consists mainly of organizing and conducting thematic workshops, the assistance of different seminar groups, providing information and creative ideas for the PR. Thus, intercultural understanding, responsibility for the convergence towards a social Europe and the reduction of racism is promoted not only among the project participants, but also at a regional and international level.

Tasks as an ESC volunteer would be:
– Preparing the seminar house for groups as well as greeting them (including preparing rooms, laundry etc.).
– Preparing and conducting the seminars as team assistant.
– Assistance in the ICE e.V. office (writing lists, filing, making copies etc.).
– Carrying out own ideas in the planning and design of events (thinking of new projects).
– Conducting your own workshops and supporting the pedagogical team during the seminars with German and international volunteers (the groups can be pretty big, up to 40-50 people max, so you shouldn’t be afraid of talking in front of groups).
– Taking part in public relations of the ICE e.V. and international cooperation-partners.
– Excursions with volunteers, cultural visits to museums or cities, such as Berlin, Prague or Leipzig.

Profile of the volunteer:
– Age 18- 30 years old.
– English conversation level.
– Likes working with youngsters.
– Motivated, open minded, adaptable, team player.
– Available for the full period of project.

** We are looking for a candidate, who is open minded, creative, patient and has their own ideas, and very important: is motivated to learn and talk in German, maybe even have some German skills.

-Accommodation:
Free accommodation in the volunteer house (living together with them, everybody has their own room).

– Local transportation: will be provided by the host.

– Financial Support:
You will receive a Monthly pocket money and food allowance: 7€ per day plus money for food (333€ per month).

535 Euro provided for international travel (round trip).
